Jennifer Ferrante is a member of the Algonquin of Pikwakanagan First Nation. She is of Algonquin/Italian descent and has been working with Indigenous people, communities and organizations in the Ottawa area for over the past fifteen years. Jennifer holds a Masters in Indigenous Canadian Studies with a focus on Public Policy and is also a Certified Ontario Teacher. She is passionate about using her education and experience to educate the public and improve relations between Canadians and Indigenous peoples.
Commanda Cultural Communications was developed with the goal of closing the gap between Indigenous people and Canadians through education and inclusivity. Jennifer has a desire to help improve health and education outcomes for Indigenous people through providing education and awareness to schools, communities, private and public sector organizations that interact with Indigenous peoples in areas of education, health, corrections, government, social services and more.
Commanda Cultural Communications Services divides into 4 streams:
Cultural Competency: cultural awareness, competency and safety workshops for government, organizations, business, industry, education staff and other services.
Education: Awareness workshop and presentations for elementary, secondary, college and university level students. Youth groups and programs, Cultural teachings Tutoring Services individual or group tutoring provided by certified Ontario teacher.
Communications: Proposal, grant and report writing Editing/ proof reading services Cultural literacy consultation for programs, services, working groups, Indigenous community engagement planning. Project coordination, management and implementation.
Language: introduction to Anishinabemowin (Algonquin/Ojibway) language. Indigenous people are the fastest growing segment of the Canadian population. Commanda Cultural Communications targets mainstream organizations in health and education and social services to promote culturally safe practices among health care professional, school boards, university staff, government and private sector employees. Commanda Cultural Communications also works with Indigenous organizations, communities and individuals seeking project coordination/management, event facilitation, and writing services.
